At the core of what we believe as architects, is that good design has the power to transform and add value. Whether a vacant piece of land or a tired existing building, our focus is to provide you with a vision of what the project can be, not just a response to the brief or to the surroundings. Our projects can be catalysts for regeneration of entire areas by giving the people who interact with it a greater sense of purpose and value. The value we add is more than just financial or value for money, but fundamentally enhancing the value of a site, the area and neighbouring properties and ultimately the experience of the people using it. The positive impact of our projects also include their impact on the environment – at the heart of each design is an inherent sustainability whether a project is green rated or not.

Our process is defined by a collaborative approach centered around our clients.

Firstly we listen. Carefully.
Secondly, we quickly produce sketch concepts, often a number of options, which we workshop with our clients to ensure they are always central to the decision making. We have a big picture approach where we believe strongly that getting the basic diagram right will ensure that the detail resolves itself at the appropriate stage.
The following stages involve refining the design and presenting it a way which will allow the client, agents, investors, financial institutions and end users to commit to the concept.

Lood Studio was founded by Lood Welgemoed in 2018.
Lood completed his architecture degree at University of Pretoria in 1996 and then worked in London for 12 years, where amongst other things he co-founded Darling Associates, an award winning practice. As a director he was responsible for work generation and work on many prestigious projects including the ultra-luxurious One Hyde Park by Candy & Candy. Lood returned to Pretoria in 2009 and joined Boogertman + Partners where he worked for 7 years, completing many projects and specialising in sustainability in the built environment. The highlight of this period must be the new Department of Environmental Affairs head office, a 40,000 sq m 6 star green rated PPP project. We strongly believe in long term relationships with our clients, contractors and other consultants and that the best projects result from the best teamwork. Our business model is one of collaboration with the appropriate experts for each project, curating everything from urban spaces, buildings, interiors, graphic design, product design, websites and branding solutions.
